“There is still a chance for Bulgarian tourism”, commented Deutsche Welle.
“Tourists cram into beaches, drinking cheap alcohol by the bucketful while spending little money-this is Mallorca’s tourism. Bulgaria is heading the same way, but it’s still not too late.
Bulgarian Black Sea resorts face a quandary: they do not want to repeat Spain’s mistakes, but, on the other hand, the lure of mass tourism is very attractive.
Over the last few years, the number of hotel beds has outstripped demand from visitors and competition has increased dramatically. This has led to a decrease in costs.
"Empty beds are only one of the problems faced by hoteliers on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast. One of the biggest drawbacks is the lack of tourism infrastructure development", said Marin Neshkov, chairman of the Chamber of Tourism.
Compared to Romanian hotels, Bulgarian accommodation is only average in European terms, considers Neshkov. What is needed is a shift in strategy”, reported the German paper.
