    There are no direct flights from Australia or New Zealand to Bulgaria, and anyway, travelers from down under usually visit it en route overland between Turkey and Eastern Europe, often as part of a round-the-world trip. Many airlines offer indirect flights from Sydney to European cities from which there are onward flights to Sofia - though you might not get a same-day connection. From November to March Olympic charges from AUS07, with a stopover in Athens; Turkish Airlines from AUS72 via Istanbul; Lufthansa from AUS75 via Frankfurt; and Austrian Airlines from AUS47 via Vienna. From May to September there are fewer options and prices are higher; AUS07 on Turkish Airlines, or AUS74 on Alitalia.
