About Bourgas and Properties
Bourgas - the city is the fourth largest in Bulgaria, situated in the most western part of the Bourgas Bay, spreading on a peninsula surrounded by the three famous lakes - Burgasko, Atanasovsko and Mandrensko. The city of Bourgas is turning to be the most vivid and busy centre in the South Black Sea coastline and has the biggest port area in Bulgaria with welldeveloped industry and flourishing trade relations. The Port of Bourgas is the biggest seaport in the country. The Airport of Bourgas is the one where the international flights land in summer. It's not famous as a beach resort (although you can find a few beaches), but rather as a starting point for the big southern Black Sea resorts in Bulgaria with its railway station facilities and busy bus station.
THE PLACE OF BOURGAS
Bourgas and the surrounding countryside and beachfronts are Bulgaria's Bournemouth. It's a seaside city with wide boulevards leading down to the water in the same way as Bournemouth. Bourgas is where Bulgaria's wealthy industrialists and celebrities like to hang out, partly because its centre has been relatively untouched by the communist era's penchant for soulless concrete blocks. The city's restaurants and bars are stylish and offer modern European food as well as the slightly stodgier local fare. Bourgas is also famed for its shops where designer clothing can be bought for a few pounds. Sarafovo, a small but fast-growing fishing village, is just a short drive from the city, and the mass-tourism Mecca of Sunny Beach and Sozopol are also nearby.
BOURGAS PROPERTIES MARKET
The building boom in Sunny Beach, 30 minutes' drive north of Bourgas, is slowly creeping south up the coast and has reached as far as Sozopol. It's hard to find beachfront new-build apartments for less than £30,000 unless you buy a smallish studio apartment, although two or three-bed village houses further inland go for £30,000. Three years ago they sold for just £5,000! Bulgarian properties near the beach resort of Sunny Beach tend to cost more and attract higher holiday rentals.
BOURGAS TOURIST ATTRACTIONS
The favourable geographical location and advanced transport infrastructure of Bourgas are good prerequisites for development of tourism and trade. The Sea Garden a strip of woodland, parks and walkways between the city and the beach. Tourists can walk around the sea garden and sit in the pubs on the beach, drink beer and enjoy sea waves. The cathedral of St. St. Cyril & Methodius with lavish decorations of mural paintings and frescos, the Armenian Church, the catholic cathedral, the churches of St. Deva Maria and St. Ivan Rilski, the Natural Science Museum, the Philharmonic orchestra and the Art Gallery The city beach in the proximity of the Sea Garden is a very busy and visited place. There is a whole range of bars, restaurants, cafeterias, entertainments and sport facilities on one side and the natural tourist attraction - the golden sand, on the other. The dark colour of the sand on the seacoast of Burgas is due to the tinge of magnetic alloys which have a very curative effect. For a traditional beach experience, make for Sozopol, a gated, purpose-built holiday resort 20 minutes' drive away - you can visit for the day or rent an apartment overlooking the main beach and its bars.
