It is connected with the capital Sofia with the recently build Trakia highway, which is 375 km long. Burgas is near to other world-famous Black Sea resorts, such as Sunny Beach, the holiday villages Elenite and Dyuni, Nesebar, Sozopol. At Burgas’ beach is held the famous festival Spirit of Burgas which is the biggest and the most varied music event in Bulgaria. The low level of the coast helped the formation of three beautiful lagoon-lakes – Atanassovo, Burgas, and Mandren lakes are famous tourist attractions, which impress with their natural inhabitants and tremendous sightings. Lake Bourgas is Bulgaria’s largest lake and is in the middle of the city. It is important for migrating birds. Over 250 species of birds inhabit the lake area, 61 of which are endangered in Bulgaria and 9 globally, attracting keen birdwatchers from all over the world.

Historical Sightings

Many historical sightings are situated near Burgas. Located in the western part of Burgas Bay, тhe city is the largest port in the country. Burgas has its own airport. The city is most crowded during the summer, when visited by Bulgarian and foreign tourists. The first name of the city comes from the ancient times when the Romans named it Deultum. In the Middle Ages Burgas brings another name – Pyrgos. In the 17th century it was given its present name. Interesting attractions in the city are the Regional History Museum and Art Gallery, the Ethnographic museum and Sea Garden. Burgas provides excellent opportunities for water sports, paragliding and rock climbing.
