Burgas and the district of Burgas is the second largest area on the Black Sea coast and is an important industrial, transport, cultural and tourist center.

Connections and travel

It is connected with the capital Sofia with the recently build Trakia highway, which is 375 km long. Burgas is near to other world-famous Black Sea resorts, such as Sunny Beach, the holiday villages Elenite and Dyuni, Nesebar, Sozopol. Historical Sightings


Many historical sightings are situated near Burgas. Located in the western part of Burgas Bay, тhe city is the largest port in the country. Burgas has its own airport. The city is most crowded during the summer, when visited by Bulgarian and foreign tourists. The first name of the city comes from the ancient times when the Romans named it Deultum. In the Middle Ages Burgas brings another name – Pyrgos. In the 17th century it was given its present name. Interesting attractions in the city are the Regional History Museum and Art Gallery, the Ethnographic museum and Sea Garden. Burgas provides excellent opportunities for water sports, paragliding and rock climbing.
